I started my meditation practice over 20 years ago when I became involved with a small group of like minded enthusiasts in Bexhill on Sea. The opportunity to help finance a dedicated property for teaching meditation quickly followed. I have never looked back.
From that time onwards I have tried to find ways to help other people experience the improvements to mind and body that can come from this practice. When I first heard about the work of the British Academy of Sound Therapy in Brighton I immediately saw the connections with meditation and decided to spend some time looking at their work and results.
Sound is generated through the ‘ playing ‘ of large metal gongs. These gongs are able to produce sound vibrations that we can experience as something quite amazing. It must be stressed that this is not necessarily the case for everyone but there is a lot of research and feedback from participants over 20 years who have had very positive and illuminating experiences during their sessions.
My sessions last about 30 minutes. There are two gongs, a sun gong and an earth gong. Each produce very rich and diverse sounds/vibrations which can be felt throughout the body, balancing our energies. Sometimes participants experience ‘ altered states of consciousness ‘ because the brain waves that are normally generated throughout a busy day are encouraged to settle through a process called ‘ entrainment ‘. This can allow us to experience natural states of mind similar to daydreaming where we are less analytical and much more relaxed.
